Freelance Social Media Strategy and Management

In order to preserve my skill set learned working at a PR agency in social media, I began doing freelance social media strategy and management while working in marketing. I always begin with a social media strategy assessment.

I work to brand or rebrand all social platforms and ensure that all links, settings and information are up to date and content across each platform. Then I work to create the over all strategy and campaigns before moving into content planning and development. Then I work to craft, schedule and sometimes even live post all planned content. Finally this is followed up with analytic assessments of each post and campaigns as a whole.

I have experience in Facebook including using Ads Manager and Power Publisher. I have created and monitored events, comments and reviews in real time. Also, leveraging Facebook Live in addition to regular posts and photos. On Twitter I have experience identifying and targeting audiences, engagement with the community as well as scheduled posts on the platform. Within Instagram I have experience in Instagram Live, Stories and various post types and ADs. In addition to writing content for posts, I also design graphics and stage photo and video shoots to supplement content. I have experience designing and scheduling SnapChat geo filters. I have included a few samples of work from various projects below.

Presidio | Field Marketing Representative

As the Field Marketing Representative in the Presidio Oklahoma City office my primary duty is to plan and implement events for both customers and partners. I had prior experience putting together social events in college and large fundraising events at my previous job, but this was my first time planning many small educational events. I’ve learned everything that goes into a trade show, a lunch and learn and even a dine and dash. It takes months to plan and extreme attention to detail to implement events twice a month and coordinate parter participation while driving customer attendance.

I also work to facilitate relationships among account managers, partners and customers. This includes meeting with local account managers each week to strategize invite lists and marketing email campaigns. I also work with our local partners facilitating in office trainings and presentations at events. Customers hear from me about events and local marketing campaigns.

While at Presidio I have designed event invitations and signs as well as giveaways and white papers. I am certified in HubSpot email marketing and have designed, tested and run marketing campaigns. I work as a part of a larger Field Marketing Team on country-wide campaigns, making this my first job working as a part of a team.

The most exciting part of my job is being the face of the company at events, trade shows and in front of partners. I never feel more comfortable than when I get to share my passions by just talking to people.

Vann & Associates PR + Marketing | Account Coordinator

After completing an internship with the company I was hired on part time while I finished my last semester of college. I then transitioned into full time shortly after graduation.

As an account coordinator, I wrote content for social media, newsletters, websites, collateral and news releases.  I managed multiple social media accounts for a variety of clients. While here I developed skills in CMS, Hootsuite, Constant Contact and photography.

I also collaborated with senior staff for major marketing plans, new brand developments and large event planning. I worked on multiple nonprofit fundraisers as well as a large youth rodeo.

Working for an agency with a wide variety of clients allowed me to sharpen my skills by presenting new and different challenges every day. I left the agency life for a slower paced corporate marketing position, but I will always be grateful for the experience I gained here.

Vann & Associates PR + Marketing | Intern

I completed my second internship during the summer of 2014 with Vann & Associates. I gained valuable experience with writing press releases, social media and website content. I was also able to observe the PR firm preparing clients for interviews with print and broadcast media. I saw scripts, talking points and even a Fox 25 morning show schedule. I participated in brainstorming ideas for campaigns, attractions, events and marketing materials. All of my works during this internship can be found in my writing samples.

I also learned to use CMS software and even built a site for myself. While working with websites, I also helped with creating new websites for existing clients by writing architecture and content documents with information from their current sites, to be used as a guide for the new one.

Media relations is a major part of PR and I was able to see first hand what goes on behind the scenes on location and in studio with Fox 25.

Some of the most important learning experiences that I was exposed to was seeing “people relations.” I listened in on client meetings and toured all kinds of places such as the Ambassador Hotel, the E. W. Marland Mansion and the Oklahoma History Center where I met all of the people behind the scenes.

I also had the opportunity to see the partnership between PR and the media by attending newspaper interviews and The Journal Record’s 2014 Beacon Awards.

Reliable Delivery Service, Inc.

I completed my first internship during the summer of 2011 before I starting my first semester of college that fall. I was in Chicago working as the marketing/PR intern for Reliable Delivery Service, Inc. It had just come under new ownership and was making a lot of changes.

I first created their logo, which can be seen in the photos below. I did two versions for different applications. The first logo with the blue text on a white background is what I used for creating letterhead, delivery slips, the new sign on the front door and promotional materials such as the brochure and business cards, which can be seen below. The blue logo with white font was used for company uniforms. I created blue polos and baseball caps for the delivery team to wear for a more unified look.

This experience was very challenging because I had no formal education or training at the time over anything I was doing or creating. It was incredible how much I was able to teach myself. After completing this internship, I was certain that I chose the right major to study at Oklahoma State and I could not wait to begin my communication classes.
